Biographie

Andrew Tompkins ist Historiker der transnationalen Beziehungen im Europa des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er forscht derzeit zur vergleichenden Geschichte der deutsch-französischen und deutsch-polnischen Grenzen während des Kalten Krieges in umwelt- und alltagsgeschichtlicher Perspektive. Seine erste Monographie, Better Active than Radioactive! Anti-Nuclear Protest in 1970s France and West Germany, wurde 2016 von Oxford University Press veröffentlicht und untersucht die transnationalen Netzwerke sozialer Bewegungen am Beispiel der Anti-Atomkraft-Bewegung. Er ist seit 2023 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für die Geschichte Westeuropas und der transatlantischen Beziehungen, wo er schon 2013-2016 als Humboldt Post-Doc Fellow forschte. Zwischenzeitlich war er ab 2016 Lecturer in Modern European History an der University of Sheffield und 2020-2022 DAAD-Fellow an der Universität Erfurt und an der Uniwersytet Wrocławski.
